There have been very many studies looking at the effects of lowering serum
cholesterol, of which here trials such as the MRFIT, POSCH, Scandinavian Simvastatin
Survival study, CARE trial, VA-HIT, WOSCOPS and MRC/BHF Heart Protection study
are briefly reviewed. These show that reduction of cholesterol is worthwhile in
primary and secondary prevention of coronary heart disease (CHD).
